Unakite Burnished Collar Necklace

Unakite is an altered granite: pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and clear quartz, intergrown and inseparable. The mottled peach-and-olive patterning is not surface color. It is the mineral composition, visible in cross-section. Primary sources are the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina, with additional deposits in South Africa and China.

The double-ladder structure runs in copper, soft green, and mauve seed beads, with unakite stick drops weighted along the bottom edge. The center bead is a single unakite sphere. The palette sits in the lighter half of the spectrum without going pale.

Wear it against a cream linen jumpsuit, a sage off-the-shoulder dress, or an oatmeal wool sweater. Any neckline that gives the collarbone room.
