Ruby Drape Code Necklace

Ruby is corundum: aluminum oxide, one of the hardest minerals on earth, color derived from chromium substituting for aluminum in the crystal lattice. The more chromium, the deeper the red. These rubies sit at the quieter end of that spectrum. The tone is warm, muted, peach-to-terracotta rather than the saturated pigeon-blood red that commands a different price point and a different kind of attention. That is not a compromise. It is a selection. A stone that reads this warm against teal pulls differently than a stone that reads red. The palette is doing something specific.

Five horizontal rows of faceted ruby rondelles, each one strung on teal seed beads with green bugle bead spacers between the focal stones. Metallic red seed bead loops anchor each row on either side, circular and load-bearing, pulling the bib into a descending inverted triangle. White seed beads mark each junction point. The rows widen toward the collar and narrow to a single ruby rondelle at the sternum. No drop. The bottom point is the stone itself.

The contrast between the warm muted ruby and the cool teal is not decorative. It is structural color theory: the teal makes the ruby read warmer than it is. The ruby makes the teal read cooler. Each one is doing work on the other.
