Onyx is a banded chalcedony, black variety, the color the result of carbon and iron oxide inclusions distributed through a microcrystalline quartz matrix. Most black onyx in the commercial market is dyed chalcedony; the treatment is stable and industry-standard. The stone reads as flat, matte black in most light. It does not compete. It holds.
The Onyx and Owl Girandole runs a square black onyx center stone through a diamond spindle frame of gold seed beads and iridescent tube beads, with a blue iridescent glass bead below the focal and a black and gold glass owl suspended at the base drop. The owl moves independently. The frame does not. This is a high-contrast piece: the gold is warm, the black is absolute, and the owl is not subtle.
Wear it with a black dress where the earrings are the only decision, or a camel coat where the contrast does the work.
