Crazy Lace Agate Sogdia Necklace

Crazy lace agate is a banded chalcedony from Chihuahua, Mexico. The patterning comes from silica-rich fluid moving through rock over millions of years, depositing alternating bands of cream, tan, rust, and ochre. No two stones cut the same.

Five focal crazy lace agate stones sit across the collar, framed in helix-shaped beadwork in blue, tan, orange, and copper. Between them, drops of matching beadwork hang tipped in mixed agates. The helix stitch is structural: it keeps the beadwork from collapsing between the stones.

The center drop is a glass scarab with copper etching. The scarab form traveled the Silk Road long after its Egyptian origins, showing up in Central Asian trade goods from Sogdia to the Tarim Basin.

Wear it with a bright teal silk boatneck, a tan linen square-neck, or a burnt orange wool off-the-shoulder.
