A diadem is a crown worn as a band ,a form that goes back to ancient Egypt, Greece, and Persia, where it marked rank rather than ceremony. The Diadem Weave takes that structure into beadwork: a row of rectangular gemstone or tile beads set along the band, connected by interlaced beadwork, spanning from comb to barrette.

The rectangular gemstones are the dominant visual element; they're the architectural part of the design.
