So how do you care for your new Tsuga jewelry?
Tsuga pieces are very easy to care for! Do not wear in the shower or when swimming, so as to reduce damage to clasps, thread, or earring hooks. Keep your jewelry out of direct sunlight where possible!
A big concern pertains to pieces that contain elastic. While I use durable polymer stretch cord, heat can weaken it. Sun can also cause discoloration, such as a fading of deep-colored beads.
Considering this, I recommend keeping your jewelry out of high temperatures. If you must keep your jewelry in a hot environment (such as your car), keep it out of direct light and well-insulated. Putting jewelry in your suitcase with clothing is a great way to reduce heat exposure.
What about traveling with jewelry?
If you are traveling with jewelry, how might you carry it? I have become a huge fan of carrying jewelry in a hard-sided portable hard drive case. These have a zipper closure and are lightweight but durable. This reduces the risk of your beautiful jewelry getting squished and broken in your travel bag. I have also carried my jewelry in a Tupperware container for the same reason.
How about storage?
I’m a big fan of DIY. This has been a long-term favorite storage strategy for jewelry. All you need is a floral wreath frame (Michaels wreath frame) and pipe cleaners. Simply weave the pipe cleaners in loops around the wreath frame.
For a horizontal orientation, tie a pipe cleaner to each hook and connect them together in the center, like a tent. For a vertical orientation, tie a pipe cleaner to one side in a loop to hang from a wall hook.
One of my wonderful customers, Debby, has hers hanging horizontally from a closet bar.
I have a jewelry rack against a wall, with a vertical orientation.
When these have a lot of jewelry on them, they create an eye-catching visual effect, especially in natural light.
These are also amazingly versatile. I have used these with both a horizontal and vertical orientation. They can be hung on a floor lamp, like you see here. At my first apartment in college, I hung it horizontally on a coat closet bar. I have also hung these flat against walls. A standard picture hook or even a basic nail work great for this purpose.
Either way works well. If you have mischievous small children or pets, I would recommend hanging them out of their reach. Speaking from experience- I had a cat in high school who thought that the jewelry were shiny toys, so I moved the jewelry rack to the ceiling. Problem solved!
For bracelets, I have been a huge fan of DIY bracelet racks for years. All you need is a paper towel tube, dried beans, and a black stocking. Place the paper towel tube inside the stocking, pour your tried beans inside the tube, tie it off and voila! Slide your bracelets onto it, and can be eye-catching on top of a dresser.
